Am I a Candidate for an Arm Lift?

Even if you exercise regularly and have good muscle tone, sagging upper arms can still be an issue. Fat buildup and loose skin in this area can hang below your triceps, negatively affecting the rest of your body's curvature.

Unfortunately, getting rid of excess fat and skin along your upper arms can be difficult. That is why concerned men and women choose to undergo cosmetic surgery.

What Is an Arm Lift?

Are flabby upper arms preventing you from confidently exposing your arms and wearing what you desire? If so, an arm lift can help. A brachioplasty, or arm lift, is a cosmetic surgical procedure to reduce localized pockets of stubborn fat in the upper arms. It tightens the underlying tissue that defines the upper arm and reduces sagging skin that flops downward.

Aging, genetics, and fluctuations in weight can cause your upper arms to have a sagging or drooping appearance. An arm lift procedure may be ideal if you cannot correct this problem through exercise. However, it would be best to determine whether you are a good candidate before treatment.

Are You a Good Candidate for an Arm Lift?

Have you recently lost significant weight? Do you have excess loose skin under your upper arms as a result? If your answer to these questions is yes, you should consider undergoing a brachioplasty. You can improve the look of your upper arms with a good diet and exercise. Unfortunately, the loose-hanging skin left behind will not go away.

Are you a healthy individual without medical problems and have stubborn fat and loose skin on the underside of your upper arms? If so, you are most likely a good candidate for this cosmetic procedure. Other reasons why you might be a good candidate include:

  • You do not smoke

  • You have age-related skin laxity

  • You are not obese or significantly overweight

  • You have no medical issues that could affect your healing and recovery

  • You currently have a relatively stable weight

  • You are willing and determined to maintain a healthy diet and lifestyle

Weight loss or weight gain can affect the shape of your body and the amount of fat and skin present. So, it would help if you were at or near your ideal weight before undergoing this procedure. That will help your cosmetic surgeon produce results that match the rest of your body. It will also prevent you from losing the results due to fluctuating weight.

Arm Lift Treatment Options

If considering an arm lift, you should determine which option best suits your cosmetic goals. The two main types of brachioplasty procedures are:

  • Full arm lift that involves an incision running from your armpit to your elbow

  • Limited incision arm lift involving a smaller incision within the armpit

If you have a positive attitude and are in reasonably good health, you might be a good candidate for an arm lift. It would be best if you also had realistic expectations of what the procedure can do for you. If you go into it with unrealistic expectations, you are courting disappointment.
